BEST BACKSTORY

FEMALE: Sabrina MALE: Giovanni

I honestly feel that the gym leaders from earlier generations had at much better back story and character develpment compared to now. (not ditching on the new games, just making a point).

Just about everybody knows something about Sabrina. She is no doubt one of the best know gym leaders. depending on if you play the games, watch the anime, or read the manga, her story varies. But they all have the same outcome; creepy as hell.

I don't know about you guys, but i didnt put together Giovanni was Viridian city gym leader AND Team Rockets boss. In my opinion it's one of the best twists in any pokemon game, placing Giovanni on this list.

BEST BADASS

FEMALE: Roxie MALE: Lt. Surge

Roxie is Virbank city gym leader, and star of it's very own underground band. But she's not the typical female gym leader sporting a halter top/ kimono. She a rebeling teenager who dosn't give a damn about what people think of her, or her music (no matter how loud or strange it is)

Do i even need to explain why Lt. Surge is a badass? I mean just look at him! He went threw a war and brought his pokemon. He uses electric types, and very early on in the game. so most of the time you don't have a type advantage. Oh, and if you picked squirtle as your starter, well... Good luck '^.^

Best At Annoying You

FEMALE: Whitney MALE: Koga

You knew this was coming. Most trainers worst fear, something that can make you go crazy, or even consider to stop playing the game... Whitney's Milktank. *dun da dun* With strong defense and a movepool that covers attack, HP, and seduces male opponents (by the way, most pokemon are boys) Whitney is one of the most difficult gym leaders to defeat. Oh, and lets not forget her Clefairy ethier.

Now Koga's pokemon arn't the problem. It's the goddamn gym! The invisable wall maze is very confusing and time consuming. In FireRed and LeafGreen, the walls were outlined very faintly, which helped. But in R/B/G/Y it was very hard to see this outline on a tiny little screen, and when all the colors are blending together!

BEST TRAINER

FEMALE: Clair Male: Blue

Clair is the first dragon type gym leader and also a cousin of Elite 4 member Lance. Most female gym leaders are portrayed as "sexy" or "cute". But Clair isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She's the strongest gym leader in Jhoto (2nd gen) and has tammed the sometimes difficult dragon.

Most gym leaders have a specific type the specalize in. But Blue (green in japan) has many diffrent types on his team. This way you have to use several diffrent pokemon types if you prefer battling with type advantage on your side. This is a quirky change I wish would happen in the games more often, it changes things up and offers a hole new challenge.
